Fuerteventura is famous for its strong winds and warm climate. “Playa De Sotavento” is ironically a befitting name for this beach.
This is because the Spanish words mean “a beach protected from the wind.” While that is not entirely true, the environs are not wholly ‘windless,’ but the beach’s structure appears so that the winds wouldn’t cause harm in any way. You might want to bring along a sweater or jacket, though.
Playa De Sotavento is located on the Jandía Peninsula in southern Fuerteventura. It is about almost ten-kilometer-long island with plenty of fine sand, turquoise waters, and beautiful dunes.
Sotavento Segments
Sotavento is divided into five segments. Yes, five! That’s how big the entire beach is. The five segments are La Barca, Risco del Paso, Mirador, Malnombre, and Los Canarios. These interconnected beaches have different vibes and cater to different preferences and activities.
Rest assured that you will be satisfied whatever your preference. These places, however, make up Sotavento as a whole.
